Summarize the process of bacterial transformation. Describe the role of bacteriophages in identifying genetic material Identify the role of DNA in heredity. What are the chemical components of DNA? Describe the base pair rule. Summarize the events of DNA replication. Define the following: a. Replication b. DNA polymerase c. Telomere d. Double helix e. Transformation Pair the following DNA sequence with its complimentary bases: a. TATGCCATCGAC Describe the structure of DNA. Compare DNA replication in prokaryotes with that of eukaryotes.

Explanation / Answer

ANSWER:

4.There are 3 chemical components of DNA:

5. The nucleotide base pairing in DNA occurs by the following rules:

7.a. Replication- It is a process which forms the basis of the biological inheritance in which an identical copy of the DNA is formed from the original template DNA molecule.

B. DNA polymerase- The deoxyribonucleoside triphosphate are the precursors for forming the new DNA strands during the process of replication. The DNA polymerase is the main enzyme which acts in pair to add the new subunits to the elongating strand of new daughter DNA strand.

C.Telomere- Each chromosome has repetitive nucleotide sequences at its end. This region is known as the telomere. These act as the protective caps for the chromosomes.

D. Double helix- It is a form of the secondary structure of the nucleic acid molecules which forms the double stranded DNA. In a double helix, the two polynucleotide strands running in an antiparallel direction are wound around each other.

E. Transfirmation- It is a process of transfer of the genetic material in a bacterium for the uptake of the exogenous free DNA molecule.

8. The complimentary bases of the sequence given in the question are :
