thread that answers or addresses, in detail, 1 of the following questions. Considering the functions of the different areas of the digestive tract, why would the esophagus have an inner lining of stratified squamous epithelium whereas the small intestine has an inner lining of simple columnar epithelium? Bacteria that infect our stomach often prefer to settle in areas of the stomach with relatively few parietal cells. Why would the bacteria prefer to settle away from parietal cells? What types of problems might a person experience if the lingual frenulum is too short or too tight?

Explanation / Answer

Esophagus is made of stratified squamous epithelium as this epithelium is prevents dryness and abrassion whereas small intestine is made of simple columnar epithelium as this layer undergoes complex fold of modification for absorption of food material .The bacteria prefer to settle away from parietal cell because parietal cell secrete HCL and intrinsic factor these strategies does not make environment fit for bacteria to live in parietal cell. Medically if lingual frenulum is too short or too tight then this lead to a condition known as Ankyloglossia due to which many problem may arise such as: breast feeding problem, speech problem.
