Question
Nuclei from almost any source may be injected into Xenopus oocytes. Studies have shown that these nuclei remain active in transcription and translation.
Part A
How can such an experimental system be useful in developmental genetic studies?
Check all that apply.
A. This system is used to study transcriptional enhancers and suppressors.
B. This system is used to study nuclear-nuclear interactions.
C. This system is used to study intercellular interactions during fetal development.
D. This system is used to study translational and post-translational processes.
E. This system is used to study the effects of mutagens on the development of germ-line cultures.
F. This system is used to study maternal effect.
Explanation / Answer
Hi Answer:
As we know that the Xenopus is one among the commonly used model animals. It has great impact due to its close evolutionary relationship with mammals. More over due to its close evolutionary relationship it is used to study the neurobiology, physiology, molecular biology, ell biology and developmental biology in mammals.
The above experiment in which a Nuclei injected into Xenopus oocytes and the studies on the its viability, activity were carried out. It was seen that the injected nuclei remained active in transcription and translation. This experiment is very much help full to study the developmental genetic studies. Because this experiment results help scientist to know the exact role of nuclei during the transcription and translation process and how it react during these two processes. We can say that by this experiment we can concluded that what is the effect of any change in the nuclei on the transcription and translation. We also able to determine the effect of various genes on the transcription and translation by adding and deleting some specific gene from nuclei.
The above experiment is suitable to study following aspects:
This system is used to study intercellular interactions during fetal development.
This system is used to study translational and post-translational processes.
This system is used to study transcriptional enhancers and suppressors.
