Half-Cell Experiment Question
If you had two cells like Zn2+ | Zn(NO3)2 || Pb2+ | Pb(NO3)2, where || denotes a salt bridge, and Zn2+ electrode is in Zn(NO3)2 solution and Pb2+ electrode is in Pb(NO3)2 solution...
If the literature reduction potential is 0.63 V, what would happen to that voltage number if you accidentally put the Zn2+ electrode in the Pb solution and the Pb2+ electrode in the Zn solution? Would nothing happen? I'm having difficulty understanding what would happen in each cell. Please explain. Thanks!
Explanation / Answer
Cell with stop working. As same material will not go under reduction as well as oxidation!!
