Question
Hi,
I did the Multi-Step Synthesis: the conversion of benzaldehyde to benzoilic acid in the lab.
Below is my data:
Mass of thiamine hydrochloride: 0.307 g
Mass of Crude benzoin: 0.485 g
Mass of Pure benzoin: 0.162 g
Melting point of crude benzoin: 129.8 degree
Melting point of pure benzoin: 129 degree
Mass of Benzil: 0.590 g
Melting point of pure benzyl: 92.2 degree
Mass of benzilic acid: 0.097 g
Melting point of benzilic acid: 159 degree
When prepare benzil, I used 0.304 g of benzoin that I got before.
When prepare benzilic acid, I used 0.102 g benzil.
Can anyone help me to calculate the theoretical yield, percent yield for each reaction (benzoin, benzil, benzilic acid), and percent error on melting points for each reaction (benzoin, benzil, benzilic acid)?
Thanks
Explanation / Answer
how much benzaldehyde you used? that's the key
