B)

I need final answers at the end please.

A student mixes 88.5 g of water at 68.1 degree C with 44.1 g of water at 31.1 degree C in an insulated flask. What is the final temperature of the combined water? degree C A serving of Grape - Nuts cereal (8.39 g) is burned in a bomb calorimeter with a heat capacity of 47.82 kJ/ degree C. During the combustion, the temperature of the water in the calorimeter increased by 2.33 degree C. Calculate the energy content (in kJ/g) of Grape - Nuts. energy content per gram = kJ/g

Explanation / Answer

A)Let final temprature be T

Heat gained by cold water= mC?T

                                                =44.1*C*(T-31.1)

Heat lost by hot water=88.5*C*(T-68.1)

From law of conservation of energy:

Heat gained by cold water+ heat lost by hot water=0

44.1*C*(T-31.1)+88.5*C*(T-68.1)=0

T-55.8 ?

B)Mass of Grape-Nuts=8.39g

Heat released from combustion= heat gained by calorimeter

=C?T

=47.82*2.33

=111.42 kJ

Heat content= Heat released/mass

=111.42/8.39

=13.28 kJ/g
