Question

Good evening. Please help in solving the following equations including the above operations and a balanced equation. Thanks for your support.

1. Hydrogen reacts with oxygen in a synthesis reaction to make water. If you have 2. 99 g of oxygen how many grams of hydrogen do you need?

2. Lead (II) oxide reacts with hydrochloric acid in a double displacement reaciton. How many grams lead (II) chloride will be produced if you have .79 g of lead (II) oxide?

3. Zinc produces hydrogen gas if it is reacted with sulfuric acid in a single replacement reaction. If you use .543 g zinc how many grams of zinc (II)?

4.You want to make 2.3 g of sodium chloride in the following reaction, how many grams sodium bicarbonate do you need?

5. When you decompose potassium Chlorate you produce potassium chloride and oxygen. How many grams potassium chloride do you produce if you start with 4.55 g of potassium chlorate (KCLO3)?

6.In the synthesis reaction using Aluminum and oxygen you make aluminum oxide. How many grams aluminum do you need to make .667 g of aluminum oxide?

7. Iron (III) reacts completely with sulfur in a synthesis reaction. In this reaction, what is the mass of iron (III) sulfide produced with 52.0 g of sulfur?

8. Zinc reacts with sulfuric acid in a single replacement reaction. What mass of hydrogen is produced from 31.8 g of zinc?

Explanation / Answer

1) 2H2 + O2 --> 2H2O

moles of O2 = 2.99/16 = 0.186 mol

moles of H2 required = 2 * moles of O2 = 2 * 0.186 = 0.372 moles = 0.372*2 = 0.744 g

2) PbO + HCl --> PbCl2 + H2O

moles of PbO = 0.79/223.91 = 0.0035 g

mols of PbCl2 produced = mols of PbO required = 0.0035 mol = 0.0035 * 278.1 = 0.973 g

3) Zn + H2SO4 --> ZnSO4 + H2

mols of zn = .543 / 65.38 = 0.0083

moles of znSo4 produced = moles of zn = 0.0083 = 0.0083 * 161.47 = 1.34 g

4) NaHCO3 + HCl ? NaCl + H2O + CO2

mols of NaCl = 2.3/58.44 = 0.0394

mols of NaHCO3 required = mols of NaCl = 0.0394 = 0.0394 * 84.007 = 33.098 g

5)   2KClO3(s) ? 3O2(g) + 2KCl(s)

moles of KclO3 = 0.037 mol

moles of KCl produced = mols of KClO3 decomposed = 0.037 mol = 0.037 * 74.551 =2.768 g

6) 4Al + 3O2 --> 2Al2O3

mols of Al2O3 = 0.00654

mols of Al required = 2 * mols of Al2O3 = 2* 0.00654 = 0.01308 mol = 0.01308 * 26.981 = 0.353 g

7) 2Fe + 3S --> 2Fe2S3

mols of S = 52/32.0065 = 1.625

moles of Fe2S3 produced = 3/2 * moles of S = 3/2 * 1.625 = 2.4375 mol = 2.4375 * 207.8869 = 506.724 g

8) Zn + H2SO4 --> ZnSO4 + H2

mol of Zinc = 31.8/65.38 = 0.486

mols of H2 produced = mols of zn = 0.486 = 0.486 * 2 = 0.972
