Question
1. Consider the following equilibrium:
CuCO3 (s) <---> Cu2+(aq) + CO32-(aq); ?H >0
In what direction (left, right, or no change) will the equilibrium shift if: And EXPLAIN why for each.
a. CuCO3 is added?_________
b. Li2CO3 is added?________
c. KCl is added?___________
d. Solution is placed in the freezer?__________
e. CuBr2 is added?_________
f. HNO3 is added?__________
2. Explain your answer to part f) above.
Explanation / Answer
a. The direction will of rxn will be shifted towards forward since we have increased the conc of reactant
b. The direction will of rxn will be shifted towards backward since we have increased the conc of CO32- since Li is very small hence it will disintegrate giving CO32- which will increase the products in rxn hence the rxn will move in backward direction
c.It doesn't affect the reaction
d. Rxn rate will decrease with the decrease in temperature
e. Rxn rate will decrease with the increase in the conc of Cu2+
f. It will not affect the rxn since it is not present in the reactants or at the products side
2 It will not affect the rxn since it is not present in the reactants or at the products side
