Question

What action should you take from the following error: when you go to measure the distance traveled by the spots and solvent, you discover that you didn't mark the solvent front before it dried.

a.) Run a new TLC plate identical to this one

b.) View the solvent front and spots under UV light

c.) Assume the solvent front is at the top of the slide and measure from there

d.) Calculate the capillary index for the solvent and multiply times the time required for the plate to develop to determine where the front is located

I thought b at first, but I don't think solvent shows up under the UV light..

Explanation / Answer

c.) Assume the solvent front is at the top of the slide and measure from there

Generally, we used to develop a TLC upto (0.5 cm) top of plate. So, by assuming near about the top side we can escape from the error.
