    Many people think salt (NaCl) is added to water to increase the boiling point so pasta will cook faster. Explanation / Answer

In my prior posting, I neglected the fact that NaCl produces TWO ions in soln, so my final answer should be HALF of what I posted.

Thus , 753.6 grams of NaCl,   still about 1.7 pounds, way tooo much to be useful in the kitchen.
