8.Herd immunity is a form of immunity that occurs when vaccination of significant proportion of population provides a measure of protection for individuals who have not developed immunity.
This prevent the spread of disease because it decrease the number of susceptible who can be infected. It mainly protect the individuals who can't get vaccination. These include children too young for vaccination, people with problem in immune system, too ill individuals (cancer patients).
Thus vaccination confers protection to general population.
