Question

Which organism is a biennial and completes its entire life cycle in two years? a. A dandelion b. A radish c. A grape vine d. A salmon Which of the following is an aspect of a species that would not show evolutionary evidence of past interspecific competition with another species? a. Species behavior b. Species niche c. Species morphology d. None of the above Character displacement is associated with a. Sympatric species b. Allopatric species c. Island biogeography d. Primary succession e. Secondary succession

Explanation / Answer

3. b) A radish.

Explanation: Organisms that take two years to complete their biological lifecycle are called biennial. In 1st season, the plants develops leaves, stem and roots. As, winter approaches, the plants enter into dormancy stage, where the leaves and stem remain short and closer to ground and a budding radish develops and during spring, the radish starts growing to its desired shape and size. Then during end of spring or start of summer, the stem and leaves starts growing and become vegetative and then starts flowering and in turn produces seeds before they die.

4. d) None of the above. (All of the options indicates evolutionary evidences)

Explanation: Interspecific competition is a competitions between different species of an organism for sharing the common resources.

Species behaviour: is the manner in which the individuals compete for the available ecological resources.

Species morphology: is the study of different forms and structure of an organism to study the evolution of species.

Species niche: is an interaction among various biological and a-biological factors to understand their role to meet the basic requirements of resources.

5. a) Sympatric species.

Explanation: Character displacement is the study of differences among the similar type of species which are geographically distributes in same or different locations. Sympatric species are same/identical species that inhabitant in same location utilize different resources. So, basically, when the similar species coexist and still shows huge differences in forms and structures and use different resources in comparison to the same species living in another geographical habitat, indicates character displacement.
