Question
Be sure to answer all parts.
At 1024 Degrees C, the pressure of oxygen gas from the decomposition of copper(II) oxide (CuO) is 0.490 atm:
4CuO(s) <==> 2Cu2 O(s)+O2(g)
(a) What is Kp for reaction? I got 0.49 for this but have been unable to get the other two.
(b) Calculate the fraction of CuO decomposed of 0.610 mole of it is placed in a 2.00 L flash at 1024 Degrees C.
(c) What would be the fraction if a 1.00 mole sample of CuO were used?
Please show work, I want to understand how to properly do the problem.
Explanation / Answer
a) Kp = [0.49] [1]2
-----------------------------= 3.55
[0.610]4
b) 0.610 mole gives 0.490 mole of O2
.0.0610 X 79.54 = 48.5 gms gives 8 gms of O2 fraction decomposed = 8/48.5= 16.49x 100= 16.49%
c) if you use one mole the fraction would be 8/79.54= 10.05%
if you to do the above mentioned problem like this mentioned above you should know the basics of stoichiometry, mole fraction and Kp
