Question
Name the part of the brain which is response for: Conscious sensation of painful stimuli____ Coordination of voluntary muscle activity____ Initiation (starling) of voluntary muscle activity such as hand movement____. Memory that touching a hot stove is painful____ Decision to be careful when working around a hot stove ____ Explain why actions that require involvement of the brain happen more slowly than reflexes. A person's ability to respond to stimuli may be disrupted when a neuron pathway are damaged Sometimes the damage is due to severing (cutting), compression (squeezing), or death of neurons. This damage prevents Impulses from traveling through the neuron pathways. Doctors can do a neurological examination where they expose a patient to stimuli and then observe the patient's responses. One neurological test involves poking a patient's hand with a needle to see if the patient responds normally. If a patient responds abnormally, additional testing can be used to develop a diagnosis to determine how the neuron pathways are disrupted. Your teacher will give your team six patient cards. Work with your team to complete the patient cards (for Anna. Bart. Connie. Erin. David and Fred) to determine which neuron pathway (if any) is damaged for each patient. Use a washable marker to put an X on the part of each patient s nervous system (if any) that is damaged. Call your teacher over to check your work on the patient cards. TEACHER INITIALS____ Another patient had a stroke (blood dot in the brain). He can feel pain and make a reflex response to touching a hot object. He can also move his hand voluntarily. But. he has trouble remembering to be careful when working around a hot stove. Which part of his nervous system may be damaged by the stroke?Explanation / Answer
Answer 13
Name the part of the brain which is responsible for:
Explanation:- Conscious sensations, such as pain are felt when impulses travel from the receptors at the affected site to the spinal cord through sensory neurons.Through the spinal cord, interneurons carry impulses to the sensory cortex region of the cerebrum.
Explanation:- Impulses for voluntary movement initiate in the motor cortex of the cerebrum. The motor cortex sends signals through interneurons to the cerebellum which coordinates the motor activity.
Explanation:- Prefrontal cortex of cerebrum stores memories. The signals received by sensory cortex pass through prefrontal cortex. These signals are recorded in the prefrontal cortex region as memories.
Explanation:- The memories help in decision making. The area where memories are formed is therefore also responsible for decision making. Thus prefrontal cortex of cerebrum is responsible for decision making.
Answer 13
Reflexes occur much faster because fewer neurons are involved. Also, the electrical signal does not have to travel to the brain and back. Reflexes only travel to the spinal cord and back which is a much shorter distance. The complexity of conscious reactions makes them slower than the reflex action.
Part 4 –
To Answer question 1 and 2 practical observation is required. The observations not mentioned hence cannot answer question 1 and question2.
Answer 3:-
The two major areas responsible for memory and decision making are affected. The prefrontal cortex of cerebrum is responsible for memory formation and decision making. Also, hippocampus plays important role in the consolidation of information from short-term memory to long-term memory.
