Although these nations were recognized as independent, self-governing states, they were either directly or indirectly connected to previously existing states. Discuss the ways which Nationalism influenced the formation of new states. In your discussion, speak to the role of imperialism to uphold, hinder or complicate the formation or survival of these states. Is it possible to separate imperialistic goals from nation building? This is a devotion for many nation's interests are depended on the one's nation.  In 1900s, The transformation of european countries were held by romantic nationalism that gave rise of new countries such as Germany, Italy and Romania were formed mainly by uniting various regions of states in the nation with a unique identity with nation.

Some countries had strong desire to extend their country's power through military and diplomacy. Imperialism controles the states identity, poewer, strength and group of people by military forces or other circumstances. It restrics the formation of new states.

It is possible to separate imperialistic goals from nation building. Because Britain's imperialist ambitions may be seen in sixteenth century with the establishment of East India Company. In history Great Britain occupied and ruled many countries including India. But national building desire by those people gain freedom and started their new life with the formation of new nations.
