Question

Thank you.

Using the bond dissociation enthalpies from Table 4.3 on the next page, please calculate AH for the following reactions. Please present your calculation in terms of (enthalpy of bonds broken) - (enthalpy of bonds formed) =DeltaHreaction. CH4 + Cl2 - CH3CI + HCI (radical chlorination of CH4). B. CH4 + F2 - CH3F + HF (radical fluorination of CH4). Use f(x) = 2x2 - x+1 find following : each to find the following: Find the domain of the function: Use partial fraction decomposition (to Find A,D,etc.) Write out the EQ for the polynomial/rotional fct. Use the graph of f to sketch the graph of if f(x) = x2 + x-8 and g(x) =-6 +4x, find the following Recognizing Composite Findings Given f(x) = g Check Calculate the difference quotient and reduce as far as possible

Explanation / Answer

(A) CH4 + Cl2 => CH3Cl + HCl

DH(reaction) = enthalpy of bonds broken - enthalpy of bonds formed

= CH3-H + Cl-Cl - CH3-Cl - H-Cl

= 439 + 243 - 351 - 432 kJ (or 105 + 58 - 84 - 103 kcal)

= -101 kJ (or -24 kcal)

(B) CH4 + F2 => CH3F + HF

DH(reaction) = enthalpy of bonds broken - enthalpy of bonds formed

= CH3-H + F-F - CH3-F - H-F

= 439 + 159 - 459 - 571 kJ (or 105 + 38 - 110 - 136 kcal)

= -432 kJ (or -103 kcal)
