Draw two thermometers side by side immersed in boiling water. One thermometer measures degrees Fahrenheit and the other measures degrees Celsius. Draw two lines on each thermometer to indicate the normal boiling point and the normal freezing point of water such that these temperatures occur at the same height on both thermometers (look up these values if you don't know them). Indicate in your drawing the level of mercury inside the thermometers. For every 1 degree C increase or decrease in temperature, how many degree F does this correspond to? Using your answer from a, what is the heat capacity of aluminum metal in units of kcal/mol middot degree F?

Explanation / Answer

b) when immersed in water at freezing point, celcius thermometer would show 0C and Fahrenheit would show 32F at the same height

when immersed in water at boiling point, celcius thermometer would show 100C and Fahrenheit would show 212F at the same height
