Take phthalic acid 100g and add water a measured quantity and heat it to soluble, if it is not soluble add some more water and heat to soluble completely and cool the hot solution in ice bath, the solid material formed can be filtered. First time you can get around 80% of pure phthalic acid, cooling for long time will deliver remaining pure material
