Question
Add heat to liquid water which is maintained at a constant pressure (760 mm Hg) . The inital volume of water is 10. mL.
Temp at A is 80C and B is 100 C.
What is the volume occupied by water at point B and point C (assume Ideal behavior). Note: you must use an estimation technique such as the antoine equation.
Explanation / Answer
V1/T1 = V2/T2
==>10/(80+273) = V2/(100+273)
==>V2 = 10*373/353 = 10.56 mL
so V at B = 10.56 mL
as T is constant from B to V so V is also constant
or, V at C = V at B = 10.56 mL
