Question

A 20.0 L container at 200 oC is filled with H2 gas to a pressure of 1.80 atm.  C2H2 gas is added until the pressure is 3.00 atm.  The following reaction occurs:

What is the final pressure (in atm) after the reaction has gone to completion? (Do NOT include units in your answer.)

I got a final pressure of 3.90 atm, but the quiz doesnt like that answer. Can anyone help me, please?!

Explanation / Answer

pressure due to H2 = 1.8 atm

and the pressure due to C2H2 = 3-1.8 = 1.2 atm

so now the limiting reagent is H2 that is 1.8/2 = 0.9 atm

so now the H2 finishes and the pressure due to H2 becomes 0

now the pressure due to C2H2 = 1.2 -0.9 = 0.3 atm

and the pressure due to C2 H6 = 0.9 atm

so now the total pressure of the system = 0.3 + 0.9 = 1.2 atm
