Question

Which of these statements best describes the relationship between temperature and reaction rates? Please explain each answer to why it is or isn't correct.

A) If the enery of the products is less than the energy of reactants then the speed of collision has no effect on the rate of the reaction.

B) The energy of the collision of molecules must be great enough to overcome the bond energy of the products.

C) An increase in temperature increases the energy of the collision and rate of reaction.

D) An increase in temperature causes the molecules to collide with greater energy, increasing the rate of the reaction.

Explanation / Answer

we use the formula to detect all the parts = rate = A e^ -Ea/RT

therefore

a]the rate of reaction is dependent on the activation energy so it will effect the reaction so first statement is false

b]yes the energy should be greater otherwise reaction wont take place

c]rate is dependent on the temp so as we increase the temp rate keeps on decreasing ....so so the staement is false

d] it increases the no. of collisions but decreases the rate of reaction as it is very much clear from the above used equation that ads we increase the temp the rate of rxn decreasess
