Question

Out of these 6 choices, which one relates to plant size and plant thickness, and how?

1) Cellular damage from increased UV light
2) Water loss/desiccation of both adult and embryonic structures
3) Gas exchange without excessive water loss
4) Access to nutrients and a means to distribute them
5) Structural support for growth
6) Reproduction without water, which is required for motile sperm

I think it's because of 2, the water loss. Plants would need more water in order to maintain bigger leaves and a larger stem, making it difficult to face challenges in moving from an aquatic to terrestrial environments. Like a cactus, its modified leaves tend to be much smaller since the area they live in is deprived of water. Please explain your answer thoroughly with support, and if my answer seems logical.

Explanation / Answer

I think 5) is more suitable for the question asked, because the structural support triggers hormone release from the growing plant parts for healthy growth of the plant while in 2) water loss from embryonic structure has no effect of thickness and size of plant but water does make plant thicker and grow bigger.
