Personally, I think he was an early proponent of the idea of looking at one's behaviors and life in the context of their upbringing, which was a pretty revolutionary idea.
The big joke about Freud is that everything was about sex, and that daughters subconciously wanted to have sex with their fathers, and the same for sons and mothers.This is how he is portrayed, joked about.
A more general criticism of Freud's theory is its emphasis on sexuality.Everything, both good and bad, seems to stem from the expression or repression of the sex drive.Freud himself later added the death instinct, but that proved to be another one of his less popular ideas.
Something else about Freudian theory of Oedipus complex. That the kids between 3-5 years they have a sexual appeal to the opposite sex of parents ( like daughter to her father, and son to his mother). This theory is so RIDICULES! I mean kids are so innocent ,actually too innocent, to think in that way upon the parents!!
That's why most Freudian theories had been criticized a lot.
Possitives :
1.Freud is thought to be the father of psychoanalytical theory. Psychoanalytical counseling practices are still used today by some. However, many of his theories have been disproved.
2.Saying that not to drive away with imaginations and dreams.
