Question

1b)

Express your answer with the appropriate units.

3) Write a molecular equation for the precipitation reaction that occurs (if any) when the following solutions are mixed. If no reaction occurs, write NOREACTION.

a) sodium chloride and lead(II) nitrate

b) lithium nitrate and lead(II) acetate

c) copper(II) nitrate and sodium sulfate

d) strontium nitrate and sodium sulfate

Explanation / Answer

1(A)///NaOH->Na(+)+OH(-) HNO3->H(+)+NO3(-) adding the two obtained products we get.............. ---------------------------------------- Na(+)+NO3(-)->NaNO3 H(+)+OH(-)->H2O therefore we get NaOH+HNO3->NaNO3+H20// (b)no. of equivalents of H(+)=no. of equivalents of OH(-) 50*v=17.2*1.5*2(because one mol of H2SO4 will furnish two moles of H(+)) v=1.032 ml 2(A) first we check the limiting reactant..... the limiting reactant will have minimum moles /stoichimetric coeff. ratio....... fof H2 it is 5.5/6=.92 and for N2 it 32.2/28=1.15 .....therefore H2 is limiting reagent hence moles of ammonia obtained =(2/3)*moles of H2=2*5.5*1000/(2*3)=1833.34 moles of ammonia therefore mass of ammonia =1833.33*17g=31.17 KG 3(a)NO reaction (b)no reaction (c)solution will turn blue due to this reaction Cu(NO3)2+Na2SO4->CuSO4(blue)+2NaNO3 but because both of them are soluble this is not precipitation reaction (d)NO REACTION
