Question

Part A A child applies a force parallel to the a-axis to a 6.00- kg sled moving on the frozen surface of a small pond. As the child controls the speed of the sled, the a-component of the force she applies varies with the a-coordinate of the sled as shown in figure (Figure 1). Suppose the sled is initially at rest at r-0. You can ignore friction between the sled and the surface of the pond Use the wor-energy theorem to find the speed of the sled at 2.0 m u= m/s Submit Figure 1 of 1 > incorrect: Try Again: 5 attempts remaining F. (N) Part B 10 Use the work-energy theorem to find the speed of the sled at 12.0m m/s 0 4 8 12 Submit

Explanation / Answer

a)

Area under the graph gives the Work done

W=(1/2)*2*2.5 =2.5 J

Since W=(1/2)mV2

2.5=(1/2)*6*V2

V=0.913 m/s

b)

W=(1/2)*10* 8 -(1/2)*4*10

W=20 J

=>20 =(1/2)*6*V2

V=2.582 m/s
