A small car, a Fiat 500 (1100 kg) , collides head-on with a large car, a Cadillac Escalade 2000 no injuries!). During the collision the Cadillac exerts a 5500 N lonce on the Fia What force does the Fiat exert on the Cadillac? Justify your answer Don't won these matter e size ortnu obects tne we exerted by eoch ooect will be te sau,but ppsite ) What is the acceleration of the Fiat? 1. (a) Force will be equal and will be in opposite direction from Newton's third law of motion, F (Fiat on cadillac) = 5500 N
(b) aFiat = F/mFiat = 5500/1100 = 5 m/s2
aCadillac = F/mCadillac = 5000/2600 m/s2 = 1.923 m/s2
2. If the net force is zero on a body then the acceleration of the body will be zero from Newton's second law of motion but the velocity will not be necessarily zero. It will remain unchanged.
