Question

My lab teacher pretty much told us to read the book and gave us this packet to solve. I understand IR. but I'm not quite sure what to put and how to do the mass spectrum and NMR. If someone could help me by solving and giving me as much data as possible for each problem.
Thanks.

I couldnt upload all the images as they surpassed the 10 mb. Heres the link to the rest of them.

Explanation / Answer

IR at 1525 , 1350 cm-1 indicates NO2 group , IR at 1715 indicates ketone or aldehyde,

NMR peaks at 8 ppm range indicates Benzene H , peak at 2.15 (3H) singlet indicates CH3 adjacnet to C=O, hence methyl ketonic group , 4 H gave 2 peaks indicating one functional groups in benzene at para position , compound is para nitro acetophenone.( this is for JPEG 2), mass spectrum shows peak at 165 if we calculate we get 165 ,

8C+ 3O + 1N +7H = 8(12)+3(16)+(14)+(7) = 165, another peak at 150 shows elimination of group of mol mass = 15 which is CH3 group , thus peak at 150 is due to removal of CH3 from compound., peak at 43 indicates peak for COCH3 ( if we cal 3C+3H+1O = 43), hence mass spectrum confirms our functional groups , Hope this helps
