PLEASE HELP! SHOW HOW TO CALCULATE THE REST OF THE QUESTIONS WITH THE DATA I HAVE. Got bad to no explanation on how to do it in class. -Ccal(Average), J/oC 400.00 -Mass of calorimeter, stir bar and water, g 102.30 -Mass of calorimeter, stir bar, and water + mass of added ice (or melted ice), g 187.86 -Mass of ice, g 5.54 Temperature of calorimeter before ice addition, oC 24.60 -Temperature of ice before addition to the calorimeter, oC 0.00 -Temp. of the calorimeter after addition and melting of the ice, oC 18.60 ?Change in temperature of calorimeter ?Heat lost by calorimeter (q cal in J) ?Change in temperature of water from ice ?Specific heat of water, J/g.oC ?Heat gained by ice cube to warm water from ice temperature (q in J) ?Heat of Fusion of ice, DH fusion in J/gExplanation / Answer
Hey! The way you have written the data, its really hard to read, but I'll tell you how to solve it. Look, Heat Lost = Heat Gained Now, heat will be lost when temperature of water decreases plus water->ice plus temperature of ice decreases. Heat will be gained when temperature of ice increases plus ice becomes water plus temperature of water increases Now heat gained/lost will be calculated by (change in mass*specific heat*change in temp) In change of state heat gained/lost will be calculated by (change in mass*heat of fusion) take care of units and take care of signs(ie. heat is lost or gained)
