Question
A certain dry mixture contains only three compounds: silver nitrate ( AgNO3), magnesium chloride (MgCl2), and barium nitrate Ba(NO3)2. When 1.253 g of the mixture was added to excess water, 0.114 g of a dry precipitate was recovered by filtration. The solution which passed through the filter was collected in a beaker and excess sodium nitrate (NaNO3) was added to the beaker. 0.432 g of dry precipitate was collected from this solution by filtration. Calculate the percent of magnesium chloride in the original mixture. Please do not post answers from other websites. I checked all the other website for this question but none of them showed any steps. I desperately need help on this. I am especially having trouble finding the mass in grams of NO3 in the mixture.
Explanation / Answer
percent of magnesium chloride in the original mixture = 49.2 %
