b. If a serving of the full-fat version of the cookies has 120 Calories and 8 g of fat, how many Calories have you saved by eating the fat-free cookies? c. 4.The Deepwater Horizon oil spill released approximately 35,000 barrels of oil per day into the Gulf of Mexico. A barrel of oil is defined as 42 gal. How many gallons of oil were released per day?

Explanation / Answer

1. a. Total cookies = 22

Serving size = 2 cookies

Calories per serving = 120 cal

Total calories = 120 x no. of servings = 120 x 22/2 = 1320 cal

1.b. Tatal calories = 1320

Total fat = 8 x 22/2 = 88 g

Calories consumed per gram fat = 9 cal per gram

Total calories consumed = 88 x 9 = 792 cal

Calories saved by eating fat free cokies = total calories - total calories consumed = 1320 - 792 = 528 cal

1.c. Fat per serving in fat free cookies = 0.48 g

Tatal fat = fat per serving x total servings = 0.48 x 11 = 5.28 g

2. Temp. in degC = 175 degC

Temp in deg F = (temp in deg C x 9/5) + 32

= (175 x 9/5) +32 = 347 deg F
