Nutritional energy = 2.2 x 1000 cal/day how much excess energy in kJ does the adult consume per day? 1 pound of fat stored for each 14.6 x 1000 kg of excess energy consumed how long will it take to gain 1 pound?Explanation / Answer
Hi,
Assuming that, adults roughly burn 2000 cal/day, the excess energy consumed by an adult per day would be: 2.2x1000 - 2000 = 2200 - 2000 = 200 cal /day.
In the later part of the question, I think the unit of excess energy should be kJ, instead of kg.
Considering that 14600 kJ gain of excess energy leads to wait gain of 1 lb.
200 cal per day = 200*4.184 kJ = 836.8 kJ/day
Number of days to get 1lb wait would be: 14600/836.8 = 17.44
Hence it should take ~ 17 days to gain 1 lb of weight.
