the molar mass of MgSO4 x 7H2O is 246.5 g / mol

you have 5 grams of compound

moles = mass / molar mass = 5 / 246.5 = 0.020 moles of compound

1 mole of ionic hydrate compound produce 7 moles of water so

0.02 * 7 = 0.14 moles of water

water has a molar mass of 18 g / mol

so mass of water is 0.14 * 18 = 2.52 grams of water
