Question
can anyone help me with number 2? I've attempted it but need help still,
thanks!
Explanation / Answer
2. making a buffer solution
[CH3COO-]/[CH3COOH]
when molarity of two solutions are the same = 0.500 M
say we added 10 ml CH3COO- and 30 ml CH3COOH solution
then,
[CH3COO-]/[CH3COOH] = [(0.500 M x 10 ml/40 ml)/(0.500 M x 30 ml/40 ml)]
removing the common terms,
[CH3COO-]/[CH3COOH] = (10 ml/30 ml)
So as can be seen when the initial molarity of the acid and conjugate base are the same, final volume are the same.
Then,
[CH3COO-]/[CH3COOH] = [V(CH3COO-)/(V(CH3COOH)]
