28. Explain why a secondary antibody response to an antigen may prevent a bacterial or viral disease when the primary adaptive immune response to that antigen did not protect the person from the disease. Be specific about the type of cells and products involved in the responses.

Immune system is a protecting covering to the body from the so many pathogens living freely in the environment which cause a disease. The inherent immunity recognizes the bacteria/viruses and produces antibodies and lympocytes. These lympocytes could able to identify and mark an antigen to be eroded.

When a specific pathogen enters the body for the first time, the primary immune response is activated by releasing some lymphocytes called memory cells (B cell and T cells) and produces certain antibodies (IgM). These memory cells develop with the ability to possess long lasting memory to that particular pathogen for the life time. If once again that particular pathogen enters the body, the memory cells trigger the body to encounter that particular pathogen through immune response very fast.

Thus the secondary immune response triggers the body to kill that pathogen before any damage occurs to the body. Secondary immune response triggers IgG antibody production. secondary immune response has very short latent period compared to primary immune response and produces bulk amount of antibodies against the antigen of the pathogen.
