Laboratory Questions Circle the questions that have been assigned. I. Part A.1. Pure potassium hydrogen phthalate is used for the standardization of the sodium hydroxide solution that the potassium hydrogen phthalate is not completely dry. Will the reported molar concentration of th hydroxide solution be too high, too low, or unaffected because of the moistness of the potassium h Explain. hydrogen phthalate? 2 Part A.2. The student forgot to prepare any boiled, deionized water for the preparation of the NaOH solution and then forgot to cap the bottle. Will the concentration of the NaOH carelessness? Explain. i solution be greater than, less than, or unaffected bExplanation / Answer
1) The reported molar concentration of the sodium hydroxide solution will be too high. The reason is that the potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) is used as a primary acid for standardization because of its anhydrous nature. Any additional moisture in the acid results with the greater mass of potassium hydrogen phthalate in reality.
2) The concentration of NaOH will be affected. The concentration will increase due to entering of outside particals or substance into an open bottle containing NaOH and not adding the deionized water will cause concentration to be high.
