Question
Type II Diabetes, which, until recently, has been confined to the adult population, is now being seen in the adolescent population in alarming numbers. The incident rate is rising and the disease is now, in fact, considered to be an epidemic among American children. Looking at the etiology of the disease and the risk factors that increase a person's chance of developing Type II Diabetes, explain what you think has been the biggest contributor to the emergence of this disease in the adolescent population and why. In addition, explain one way in which you would respond to this issue if you were given the task of helping to reduce the incident rate.
Explanation / Answer
Obesity is the major contributing factor for type II diabetes. The fat around the major organs and abdomen especially are pretty dangerous, it interferes with the proper functioning of the insulin and as result the behavior of insulin changes gradually over time as fat intervenes.
In order to to decrease the incident rate among the young adults awareness on consumption of diets, sugars etc should be done. Inactivity for longer hours also adds fat around the abdomen, so efforts to reduce the fat and healthy weight gains must be encouraged through proper cardio exercises and healthy diets.
