Question

lpy and Phase Transitions 4. Calculate each of the following much heat is associated with 0.997 kg of propane condensing? (AH.p 19.04 kJ/mol) b. How many grams of kJ/mol) ice can you melt if you put in 8.97 kJ of heat?(4H 6.02 How much heat does your body lose when 2.8 g of sweat evaporates from your skin at 25 °C? Assume the sweat is only water. (AHuap 44.0 kJ/mol at that temperature). c. Solutions 5. Identify the solute and solvent in each of the following solutions a. 80-proof vodka (40% ethanol) b. Salt water c. Soda water (water carbonated with CO2 gas) How would you need to alter the temperature if you wanted to increase the solubility the solutes in (b) and (c)? (Answer separately) 6.

Explanation / Answer

According to chegg rules we have to answer only first one problem

4

a)

number of moles of propane = amount in g / molar mass

= [0.997 *1000/1.0] g/ 44.1 g/mol

=22.61 moles

Heat = 22.61mole*19.04 KJ/ mole

=430.5 KJ

b)

number of moles of ice = total heat / dH fus

= 8.97 KJ/6.02 KJ/mole

= 1.49 mole

Amount of ic e= number of moles * molar mass

= 1.49* 18.02

= 26.85 g

c)

number of moles = 2.8 g/ 18.02 g/ mole= 0.155 moles

heat = 44.0 KJ/ mole * 0.155 moles

= 6.82 KJ
