What will happen to the 2. -26 KI [(CHs);COH] (increase, decrease, or no effect) ?f the following would occur: a. The temperature of the reaction is reduced by a factor of 2. b. One liter of Nitrogen gas is added to the container c. Water vapor is added to the container. d. Isobutene is removed from the container. The volume of the container is reduced by 50% at constant temperature. 3. Ansiver the following: Write the formula for the appropriate conjugate acid and or base a. i. H:SO3

Explanation / Answer

The given equation,

(CH3)3COH(g) <------> (CH3)CCH2 (g) + H2O(g) ; dH0 rxn = 26 KJ

a)

The temperature of the reaction reduced by a factor of 2 then,

so there is decreses in temperature in large amount i.e., from 450 to 450/2 = 225 so the energy of the reactant molecules decreases, Hence the products are converted into reactant molecules. So concetration of reactans increases.

b)

One liter of Nitrogen gas is added to the container.

N2 is inert to wards the raction if you add N2 gas to the container then the pressure in the container increses due to more amount of the the mixture. number of moles of products are greater than the number of moles of reactants i.e., np = 2 > nr = 1. so the reaction moves in backward direction and hence the concentration of reactant increases.

C)

Water vapour is added to the container.

if you add H@O to the container then the concentration of H@O on product side increases and the reaction shifts in backward direction.so concentration of reactant increases

d)

Isobutene is removed from the container.

If the product is removed then the concentration of the product is decreased and concentration of reactant increased so the reaction moves forward direction so th concentration of reactants decreases.

e)

The volume of the container is reduced by 50% at constant temperature.

If the volume of the container is reduced by 50% then the pressure of the gas in the container increases and the np > nr, so the reaction shifts into the backward direction. so concentration of reactant increases.

3)

An acid differ by one H+ ion with a substantce then it is called conjugate base.

H2SO3 <------> HSO3- + H+

here HSO3- is conjugate base of H2SO3 since H2SO3 is an acid.
