Question

TSH hormone

2)Why do you think that your structure and your function are related? Support your contention based on 3 lines of evidence based on the chemistry, physics, anatomy, or physiology involved in your example.

3)Which are the levels of organization involved in your example (c1)? Cite events occurring at its main level of organization (c2) and indicate how they relate to the whole body level (c3). Please notice that 3 items are required (thus, answers should be labeled as “c1, c2, and c3”).

Explanation / Answer

2. The human body illustrate the levels of organization. Group of atoms (and subatomic particles) form a molecule, group of molecules form a macromolecule, group of macromolecules form an organelle, group of organelles form a cell, group of cells form a tissue, group of tissues form an organ, group of organs form an organ system, organ systems group to form an organism.

At various levels of organization, the body parts vary in complexity. For example, heart (organ) consists of cardiac cells, neurons, blood vessels, adiposities etc. and a single cardiac cell consists of several organelles, each organelle consists of several molecules of lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Thus, the complexity varies at various levels of organization.

The structure and function are always related because, though all cells primarily consist of same organelles, their number varies from each cell type. For example, a blood cell does not have mitochondria but contains hemoglobin, whereas muscle cell contains many mitochondria but does not contain hemoglobin. These factors make the cells different in their structure and function. The appearance and function of bone are different from skin, their functions also different. If bone is as smooth as skin, it can't bear weight, and all the cellular composition of bone cells like osteoblasts, matrix, high calcium etc., contribute to their function.
