Question
If a gas turbine used for power generation is producing 57MW of power and the turbine’s exhaust temperature is 541°C at a mass flow rate of 132.8 kg/s and is currently emitted to the atmosphere. The recovered heat is usually used to heat water from 40°C to 60°C for use in a hydronic heating system for an office building.
Is there any other effective use of this waste heat from the turbines exhaust at high temperature (541°C) instead of just producing hot water at low temperature for the building?
Explanation / Answer
We can use this type of heat into the preheating of air in combustion process of fuel. By which we can reduce the amount of air required for combustion process. To complete the combustion process we can fed three type air
1. primary air
2. secondary air
3. tertiary air
All type of air firstly preheat by exaust heat of turbine and then fed into the combustion chamber.
and get efficient combustion process.
