Question
InvestigationEnergy
Part 1: Photosynthesis
What was the effect of increasing carbon dioxide concentration in relation to photosynthesis? Include a screen shot of your results. Apply this information and predict what may happen in the future with increased emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere?
Part 2: Cellular Respiration
NOTE: If solution bubbles over then place you water + phenolphthalein solution into a cup before bubbling exhaled air into it.
Activity Number drops NaOH solution to restore pink color
Standard solution
At rest
Mild exercise
Vigorous exercise
Post your results in the discussion area. How do your results compare to your classmates? Explain any differences
Did you notice if you were breathing more heavily during vigorous exercise? How does this relate to the process of cellular respiration?
Part 3: Anaerobic Respiration
Share your experience of “anaerobic fermentation in practice”
Answer all of the following questions:
What causes the pH to change in naturally fermented foods such as kimchi?
Explanation / Answer
Well, I'm not an expert, but know that fermenting produces some sort of acid...check out lactic acid fermentation process in animals-its similar. For part 2, about exercise, check out aerobic respiration versus anaerobic respiration. The screen shot in part 1 is up to you. However, increasing carbon dioxide would likely increase the amount of glucose and oxygen output- just as long as there was enough energy and enough water to complete the chemical process.
