CALCULATOR FO SCREEN PRI NTE R VERSION BACK- Problem 5.10 Nitrogen Tank In this problem we are going to use two approaches to calculate the mass of N2 gas contained in a tank of known volume at known temperature and pressure. Ideal Gas Assume that the tank volume is 15.0 m3, the temperature 35.0°C and the gauge pressure 5.00 bar. Calculate the mass of nitrogen in the tank using the ideal-gas equation of state. kg the tolerance is +/-5% LINK TO TEXT By accessing this Question Assistance, you will learn while you earn points based on the Point Potential Policy set by your instructor

Explanation / Answer

Volume = 15 m3 = 15000 Litre

Temperature = 35 oC = 35+273.15 = 308.15 K

Pressure = 5 barg = 6 bar a =5.92 atm

By ideal gas law

P V = n R T

Where R = 0.082 L atm /mol K

substituting all given values in ideal gas law we get

5.92*15000 = n*0.0821*308.15

n = 3510.004 moles

molar mass nitrogen = 28 g/mol

mass of nitrogen = 3510.004*28 =98280.117 grams =98.28 Kg
