Question
Problem 1 (40 marks) Water flows through a horizontal coil heated from the outside by high temperature flue gases. As it passes through the coil the water changes state from liquid at 200kPa and at 100 kPa and 125°C. Its entering velocity is 3m/s and its exit velocity is 200m/s. flowchart of this process (10 marks); and (b) Determine the heat transferred through the coil per unit mass pf water (30 marks). Enthalpies of the inlet and outlet streams are: a) Draw the label a Inlet: 334.9 kJ/kg: Outlet: 2726.5 kJ/kg.Explanation / Answer
Using steady state steady flow equation,
m(hin + v2in/2) + Q'= m(hout + v2out/2)
or (hin + v2in/2) + Q'/m= (hout + v2out/2)
Thus, Q/m = (2726.5 x 103 + (2002/2)) - (334.9 x 103 + (32/2)) J
Q/m = 2412 kW/kg
