Question

Map The shark tank at an aquarium houses 5 sharks that deplete the aquarium water of a total of 60.00 g of oxygen per hour. Water from the tank is divertedt stream of oxygen-rich air, and then is returned to the tank. At steady state, water enters the bubbler containing 0.000700 wt% O2 and exits the bubbler containing 0.001000 wt%2. For every kilogram of the inlet water stream that enters the bubbler, 0.00500 mol of oxygen-rich air with an initial composition of 40.00 mole% and 60.00 mole% N2 is fed through the bubbler a bubbler unit that oxygenates the water using a Label the flowchart of the process below. Explanation / Answer

Now consider the inlet and outlet water stream

Let the inlet stream of containing water be W1 and the outlet stream of water be W2

The inlet stream contains 0.0007 % O2

Hence the wt % of water present in inlet stream is = 100 - 0.0007 = 99.9993 wt% water

The outlet stream has 0.001 wt% oxygen

Hence the wt% of water in outlet stream = 100- 0.001 = 99.999 wt% water

Now we will write the component balance for water

Water in W1 = Water in W2

W1*0.999993 = W2*0.99999 ........1

Now we know the difference in the mass of O2 in outlet water stream and inlet water stream is 60 g/hr =0.06 Kg/hr

Hence we can write

W2*(1-0.99999) - W1*( 1- 0.999993)= 0.06 .......2

solving equation 1 and 2 simultaneously we get

W1 =19999.8 Kg/hr

W2 =19999.86 Kg/hr
