Question
Separation Process:
Suppose a saturated liquid feed of a benzene (B)/toluene (T) mixture (50 mol% B) to a column is to be separated into a high purity distillate that is has a mole fraction of B equal to 0.9999 with a bottoms product mole fraction of 0.10. You may take the relative volatility to be aBT = 2.49 at the temperature that the column is operated. You are also given the reflux ratio to be 10.0, assuming a total condenser. Use a graphical solution up to 95 mol% B and then use the Kremser equation for the rest of the calculation.
Please show steps.
Explanation / Answer
First of all I did n't get what to find from the above given information.but i'm proceeding this question as to find out the theoritical number of stages required for the seperation.and the kremser equations are only used to find the number theoritical stages in absorption but the operation here discribed is distillation i want complete question what to be find out.
ok you asked the steps .....
the information provided in the question are as folows
top distillate fraction(say xD):0.9999
bottom distillate fraction(say xW):0.10
relative volatility:2.49
reflux ratio(R):10
since the value of relative volatility is >1 we can say that the seperation can be achieved.
