Question
Cystic fibrosis is due to a defect in a protein that transports Cl- ions across the plasma membrane of lung and intestinal cells. To map the location of this gene, a normal human cell line was fused with rodent cells. Several hybrid lines were then examined with regard to their chromosomal composition and ability to produce this Cl-transporting human protein. The results in the table below were obtained. On which human chromosome does this gene map? How would these results be different if the human cell line used in this experiment was from a patient with cystic fibrosis or from a heterozygous carrier of the disease?Explanation / Answer
A. This map is on chromosome 17 and 7.beacuse only this set chromosome is responsible for gene product in hybrid when seeing the result.
B.If the human cell line used was from patient or from the heterozygous then all the gene product of hybrid will produce cystic fibrosis.
