Question
Shown below are experimental data studying the expression of gene X from Phytophthora infestans, in two developmental stages, namely hyphae (also known as mycelia) and spores. In the left panel, expression was studied in an imrnunoblot (western blot) using an antibody against the protein. The middle and right panels show the results from RNA blots (northern blots) using total RNA and polyA+ RNA (i.e. RNA purified using oligo dT). What can you conclude about how the expression of "X" is regulated? Although not shown, you may assume that control probes were used to prove equal loading of protein or RNA.Explanation / Answer
Left side band on the antibody used gel shows thinner line, which represents that the expression of the protein is little low compared to the expression of the same protein in spores.
RNA blot gel shows, thicker band in the left side, which represents that the total RNA expression of the gene X is higher in the hyphae than spores, however mature mRNA is present in lesser quantity in hyphae (represented in RNA blot-left side band).
