1. Calculate the number of moles of silver present in a 10.35 g sample. Report your answer to the appropriate number of significant figures.
2. 6 mL of 1.0M CuSO4(aq) is mixed with 8 mL of 1.0 M Na2S(aq) to produce 0.250 g CuS, a black precipitate. The balanced chemical equation for this reaction is: CuSO4 + Na2S à CuS + Na2SO4.
a. What is the limiting reactant in this reaction?
b. Calculate the theoretical (maximum yield) of CuS in grams.
Explanation / Answer
1)
Molar mass of Ag = 107.9 g/mol
mass(Ag)= 10.35 g
use:
number of mol of Ag,
n = mass of Ag/molar mass of Ag
=(10.35 g)/(107.9 g/mol)
= 9.59*10^-2 mol
Answer: 9.59*10^-2 mol
