Help me with those questions please!!
1. Does the concentration of gibberellic acid have any effect on retarding or stimulating germination? If so which concentration? 0 mg/l? 0.001 mg/l? 0.01 mg/l? 0.1 mg/l? 1.0 mg/l? or 10 mg/l? Why is this concentration the best and why won' t the other concentrations work?
2. Does the concentration of kinetin have any effect on retarding or stimulating senescence? If so whcih concentration? 0 mg/l? 0.001 mg/l? 0.01 mg/l? 0.1 mg/l? 1.0 mg/l? or 10 mg/l? Why is this concentration the best and why won' t the other concentrations work?
3. What is a possible mechanism to explain the action of kinetin on senescence?
Explanation / Answer
1.Yes Concentration of Gibberellic acid has stimulative effect on germination. Generally GA3 concentration is calculated in parts per million ppm. it can work from 50-250ppm. But this case 1mg/ ml will be sufficient for action. It doesnt mean that the other concentration wont work, the activity will vary and may not be the optimum effect.
2. Kinetin is a synthetic cytokinin. It retards senescence. I have seen it woking even from 0.02mg/ml. It doesnt mean that the other concentration wont work, the activity will vary and may not be the optimum effect.
3. The mechenism of retarding senescence by cytokinin is still a current area of research. However it is known to to be involved in chlorophyll tetrapyrrol biosynthesis and degradation of chlorophyll A and B.
