Question
20. Which of the following is NOT correct concerning 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate (BPG)? A It increases the affinity of hemoglobin for oxygen. B. It binds at a distance from the heme groups of hemoglobin C. It is normally found associated with the hemoglobin extracted from red blood cells D. It stabilizes the T state of hemoglobin. E. It is an allosteric modulator 21. Which of the following statements is FALSE? A Substrate binds to an enzyme's active site B. Lowering the temperature of a reaction will lower the reaction rate C. For S P, a catalyst shifts the reaction equilibrium to the right. D. Areaction may not occur at a detectable rate even though it has a favorable equiibrium. E. After a reaction, the enzyme involved becomes available to catalyze the reaction again 22. Which of these statements about enzyme-catalyzed reactions is A. If enough substrate is added, the normal V.... of a reaction can be attained even in the presence of a false? competitive inhibitor B. The rate of a reaction decreases steadily with time as substrate is depleted C. The Michaelis-Menten constant K equals the IS] at which V-1/2 V D. The activation energy for the catalyzed reaction is the same as for the uncatalyzed reaction, but the equilibrium constant is more favorable in the enzyme-catalyzed reaction. E. At saturating levels of substrate, the rate of an enzyme-catalyzed reaction is proportional to the ena concentration 23. Which of the following statements about allosteric control of enzymatic activity is false? A. Binding of the effector changes the conformation of the enzyme molecule B. Allosteric proteins are generally composed of several subunits C. Heterotropic allosteric effectors compete with substrate for binding suites An effector may either inhibit or activate an enzyme E. Allosteric effectors give rise to sigmoidal Vo vs. 1S] kinetic plots 24. Which of the following is an epimeric pair? A. B. C. D. E. D-lactose and D-sucrose D-glucose and L-glucose L-mannose and L-fructose D-mannose and D-galactose D-glucose and L-mannose about hydrogen bonding in glycogen and cellulose w ngie chain. A. Glycogen primarily forms hydrogen bonds within a s B. Extensive hydrogen bonding with water makes cellulose more soluble than C. Glycogen forms more internal H-bonds than cellulose. D. Extensive internal hydrogen bonding makes cellulose more water soluble E. None of the above 40, AExplanation / Answer
20.
2,3 bisphosphateglycerate has the ability to bind heme groups to haemoglobin. It is also a stabiliser in T state of haemoglobin also an allosteric modulator.
But inspite of increasing the affinity of haemoglobin for oxygen it decreases the affinity of haemoglobin for oxygen.
Hence option (a) is correct.
